RESA III to provide proteomics and metabolomics services in the Proteomics Facility, collaborate with faculty to advance research aims, maintain lab HPLC and mass spectrometry equipment, develop new services, present and publish research findings and assist in funding acquisition, and contribute to lab administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide facility services in liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, including molecular weight determination and protein identification and metabolomics via LC-MS/MS.  Conduct associated sample preparation and enrichment protocols: protein/peptide enrichment, digestion and labeling protocols.  Use software to process proteomics and metabolomics data for identification and quantitation. Run MALDI mass spectrometer to obtain molecular weights. Consult with users on experimental design and sample preparation, respond to emails, prepare results and deliver to users electronically within the expected turnaround time

  • Train users in self-service operation of lab equipment.

  • Operate and do routine maintenance on the lab high flow and nano-HPLC systems and mass spectrometers. Investigate and recommend new instrumentation to add to the facility.

  • Develop, test and implement new protocols for new services and software for data analysis.

  • Collaborate with researchers to investigate novel methods using facility instrumentation to advance faculty research projects.

  • Oversee data backups. Network computers and provide system administration.

  • Administrative duties, including preparing income/expense analyses, laboratory safety reports, and organizing lab space.

  • Present research findings at relevant conferences, contribute to publications from collaborations and assist in grant writing.

  • Other duties as assigned. Occasional need to work outside normal business hours or on weekends.



Requirements

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in proteomics, biochemistry, or a relevant field and 2 years experience with HPLC and mass spectrometry of proteins. Experience in HPLC at ml/min to nl/min flow rates and high resolution mass spectrometry instrumentation daily operation and routine maintenance.  Experience with SDS-PAGE gels, proteolytic digestion and protein identification, modification enrichment and label based quantitation protocols. Experience with proteomics software including database searching for protein identification.  Experience with networking computers and installing and troubleshooting software.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working in a team environment and collaborating with on and off site research labs. Ability to multi-task.  Ability to work independently and perform service work with expected turnaround and quality control.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD degree in proteomics, biochemistry, or a relevant field. Metabolomics experience. Python and R knowledge Experience using Orbitrap Fusion instruments. Experience with MALDI. Experience repairing nanoLC and mass spectrometry equipment. Experience in a multi investigator or core facility setting.
