Drake University’s College of Business and Public Administration invites applications for a full-time consecutive-term (non-tenure-track) position as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Actuarial Science to serve as the Director of the School of Actuarial Science & Risk Management (SoASRM). The appointment is for 12 months.
This role is charged with ensuring that Drake’s SoASRM continues to be the actuarial science program of choice for students seeking a career in this burgeoning field. The person in this role is responsible for maintaining the program’s status as a Society of Actuaries Center of Actuarial Excellence, meeting enrollment and retention goals, and managing the school’s relationship with its National Advisory Council. As a faculty member, the person in this role will also be expected to teach a reduced number of key actuarial science courses. The appointment becomes effective January 2022.
Applicants are expected to have a master’s degree in actuarial science or related field and provide evidence of teaching effectiveness. They are also expected to be an actuary or pursuing actuarial credentials (Associate or Fellow). Preference will be given to candidates with exceptional undergraduate teaching performance, and relevant and significant business experience.
The College of Business and Public Administration at Drake University serves over 800 undergraduate students and over 500 graduate students with nearly 50 full-time faculty members. The college has strong ties with the local community and more than 90% of students have at least one internship experience during their program. The Actuarial Science & Risk Management department is a six-member department with professors in a range of insurance disciplines.
