Description

Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Location: Rice University, Houston, TX, 77005

Position Description:

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Rosa Uribe. We are seeking a proactive and collaborative scholar scientist to study genetic and cellular mechanisms of early enteric nervous system development in zebrafish and to expand upon recent findings published by our group in eLife (Howard, Baker et al., 2021 10.7554/eLife.60005 ). The position is federally funded by a recently awarded NIH-NIDDK R01 grant, with a period of up to 3 years, with the expectation that the candidate will work with Dr. Uribe to apply for fellowships during this time. The Uribe lab is collaborative and will provide a supportive training environment with opportunity to  mentor junior lab members and stellar undergraduates, develop new methods and expand scientific writing/communication skills. The candidate’s responsibilities will include working with zebrafish, experimental design/execution, data analysis/presentation and manuscript preparation.

Lab Description:

The Uribe lab studies early formation of the vertebrate enteric nervous system from neural crest stem cells and leverages live confocal microscopy, molecular biology, embryology and next-generation sequencing technologies (https://www.uribelabrice.com). The Uribe lab is part of the Biosciences Department, and a member of the Institute of Biosciences and Bioengineering (IBB), the Gulf Coast Consortia (GCC) and an affiliate of the Texas Medical Center Digestive Diseases Center (TMC DDC). The Uribe lab  and fish room resides in new state-of-the-art renovated space and is in immediate proximity to other stem cell and developmental biology labs. Candidates would be joining several new, exciting, growing stem cell & developmental biology groups at Rice University and be in close proximity to a larger stem cell, neuroscience and developmental biology community from other departments at Rice and in the adjacent Texas Medical Center.

The position is available immediately, however start dates negotiable through Summer/Fall 2021. Interested candidates should email Dr. Rosa Uribe directly and include current CV, cover letter and contact for 3 references.
