Description

Are you interested in a funded professional development opportunity?

Are you looking to develop your research skills, but are not sure that a research degree is for you?

Would you like to return to education without putting your career or life on hold?

Have you been out of education for at least 3 years because of barriers to further study, such as lack of funding, lack of flexibility, and/or other commitments (for example work or caring commitments)?

Are you working / interested in:

  • Data
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Engineering
  • Machine learning
  • STEMM
  • Or related fields?

If this sounds like you, our programme could be the next step to boost your career!

Data-Centric Engineering (DCE) sits at the interface of data science and engineering, combining mathematical modelling with the latest advances in big data and AI. DCE has become a globally recognised field due to its establishment as a strategic research theme of the Alan Turing Institute, the UK's Institute for Data Science and AI.

Our research programme aims to equip cohorts of engineers with the research and data skills required to address the data-centric engineering needs of society and industry.

What we offer:

  • A 4-year professional research programme (Sept 2021 start), designed to support a portfolio of industry-based research projects and respond to your career development needs, leading to the Queen Mary University award of Doctor of Engineering.
  • Two streams of studentships:
    • A) Enterprise Doctoral-Scholars: talented individuals who faced barriers that prevented them from continuing on to research study. Eligible candidates will receive a tax-free maintenance stipend of £20,500 (approx. £1700 pcm) per year, and their tuition fees covered (at the Home student rate)
    • B) Professional Doctoral-Scholars: those who are currently employed in STEMM professions. We will establish a partnership with your employer, so that you can remain in full-time employment and your work can become part of your research portfolio; we will also cover your tuition fees (at the Home student rate)
  • A bespoke training programme, including courses, placements with our industrial partners, and dedicated support from our Team and Academic Mentors.
  • A Research and Training Support Grant to attend conferences or acquire specialist equipment.
  • A commitment to offer as much flexibility as possible, so that our programme can work around your life – not the other way around.
